Wine with an excellent and impressive sensory evaluation from the area of Leskovik
Max Mavrud winery is located in the mountainous area of South-Eastern Albania in Leskovik. Currently the winery produces a type of red wine, a blend harmonized from a combination of red cultivars at the time of bottling.
The average load of the vineyard varies from 50 to 60 kw per hectare, on average 1.4 kg of grapes per vine root. The wines express themselves with an excellent and impressive sensory evaluation.
The winery’s vineyards are cultivated in mountainous terrain at an altitude of 750 meters above sea level with a southern exposure where the sun’s rays beat from east to west. The soil is limestone with a pH of 7.2. The winery has 6 hectares of vineyards but with increasing trends from year to year of the surface of vineyards with cultivars: Mavrud, Merlot, Pinot Noir, Debine e Bardhë, Debine e Zeze and Perla.
Currently, 4 hectares of Mavrud, Merlot and Pinot Black are for the production of red wine and 2 hectares of Debine Bardhë, Debine e Zeze and Perla are for the production of brandy.
The Mavrud, Merlot and Pinot cultivars were cultivated during the communist regime in the 1980s in the Leskovik area up to 900 meters above sea level and have resisted the climate very well, giving very good sensory organ results.
The family of the Max Mavrud Canteen, with old origins from this area, invested to once again give the Leskovik area an identity that would be recognized internationally for its super quality production, choosing precisely these autochthonous varieties such as Debin e Barhde and Black and in international cultivars as these cultivars had left their mark on the history of the Leskovik area.
