The guesthouse of Kol Marku and his family is located about 5 kilometers from Rubik, in the district of Mirdita, positioned in a small valley characterized by lush greenery and tranquility.
The restaurant has tables inside and out front, but the nicest tables, especially in the midsummer heat of July and August, are on the hillside behind the house, surrounded by woods. The menu includes goat meat, pies and salads, but there are also dishes that are more original, such as potatoes stuffed with kaçkavall cheese or dried meat, or buttermilk, a refreshing drink made from sour cream, prepared with goat’s milk. The meat and milk come from a village high in the mountains on the way to Kukës, while the bar’s wine is bought from a local winery in Bukëmira near Rrëshen. With its fresh and delicious food, the restaurant has made a good name and customers come from all over the region during the week, but also from other cities such as Fieri, Elbasan, Durrës and Tirana, during the weekend.
For those who want to spend a few days at the guesthouse, the surrounding mountains and forests offer great opportunities for excursions, while information on the large number of trails in the region can be obtained at the tourist information point InfoKulla next to the highway near Rubik. The InfoKulla itself is a worthy destination, as it houses a small museum of local flora, fauna and history, as well as an exhibition of ethnographic objects from the region.
