The value of tradition in the Arbëri Winery is evident after the steps taken by the Kaçorri family, from producing a small amount of wine for personal and local needs, to becoming one of the most popular wineries in Albania. Today, their wine has been honored with many awards and produces over 120,000 bottles of wine per year, with production steadily increasing to aim for 200,000 bottles, and exports approximately 15% of its wine to Germany, Switzerland, Denmark, USA, Hong Kong and Macau.
The architecture of the buildings is inspired by the local fortified towers.
The family has planted many grape vines on the hillside, which will soon add to the family’s production. But, what is most important, a green environment will be created for the restaurant’s customers while they will enjoy traditional dishes from Mirdita and Northern Albania, such as pure meat, pie filled with boiled vegetables, or nuts, a dish that is particularly typical in the area for Christmas and Easter.
In addition, the Kaçorri family owns several vineyards with an area of approximately 20 acres in total, which are scattered around the area. The varieties they cultivate are exclusively Albanian autochthonous, the square grape in both the white and red versions, a variety called “kallmet”, and the “ceruja” grape. The family was one of the first to start the revival of this indigenous grape, when other wineries focused more on the famous international varieties.
To learn more about the production process, but also to taste the wines and various other alcoholic beverages, visitors can participate in a wine tasting in the cellar with vaulted brick ceilings.
